VK2/CW-003, Mount Woorut

VK2/CW-003, Mount Woorut, 09th April-2019, VK2NU/P and VK2WFT/P

A simple 'drive up' activation, Mt Woorut is the home of the Siding Springs observatory, along with several other telescopes and equipment for studying the heavens.

The actual summit, and Trig marker, are restricted, but there is a visitors centre with a large carpark. This opens at 10am, and there can be quite a lot of tourists around after this time, so I'd recommend activating before this. As per previous activation's, we set up at the high spot of the carpark at around 9am. VK2NU on CW, followed by VK2WFT on SSB. Summit qualified and all packed up in time for the centre opening at 10am.

Not much more to say about this, but the visitors centre has a restaurant, which sells good coffee.

Not SOTA related, but of interest as Newcastle-upon-Tyne is my home town!

The Siding Springs Telescope!

On a final note, Westons Mountain VK2/CW-004 shown on the map above, was attempted the following day, but could not be summited due to thick vegetation on the climb up!
