VK2/HU-093, Mount Elliot

VK2/HU-093, Mount Elliot - VK2NU/P - 24/08/2017

Zone athletics carnival with my son took me within 15 minutes drive of Mount Elliot, so it seemed like a good opportunity to visit and activate the summit.

The Par End Fed was thrown in a tree with a fishing line and weight, and I set up on a picnic table. QRM on 40m SSB was very bad, but I manged to activate the summit without issue. I then switched to 40m-CW, but even with self spotting on SOTAWatch, I was unable to raise anyone. 

Then switched to 20m-SSB, working ZL2ATH, with a much lower noise floor, but no further QSO's were made. Total time including setup, and take-down was 45 minutes.

Not too much more to say about this summit... No walking required and as easy as they come, but noise on 40m was terrible. Not sure how busy the park gets at weekends, but during my visit there were only a handful of people about. "One passerby thought I'd lost my kite in the tree, when I was raising the wire antenna"!!
